Evanstrong in Austin, TX | Body Tonic Medical Spa And Wellness

Evan Mallet is a close family friend to our owner’s family and is very near and dear to their hearts…and to all of ours. He was severely injured in a car wreck in April and is now entering a new phase of his recovery. Please take time to read his story, see his milestones, and if you can, donate to help him in this next phase of recovery. There are links to more information and to donate below.

We will also be donating 20% of the proceeds of our Valentine’s Online Sale to help Evan walk again. Here is his story:

Evan is an 18 year old Senior at James Bowie High School. He was a varsity quarterback on the Bowie Bulldogs Football team and looking forward to attending college after graduation in 2021.

On Saturday, April 25, 2020, Evan was in a catastrophic car accident with two of his friends. He sustained many life-threatening injuries in this car accident. The most serious injuries were to his spinal cord. Evan survived fractures to his C4 and C5 vertebrae. As a result, he is quadriplegic, given only a 10-25% chance of regaining the use of his hands and feet. Trauma to this part of the high spine not only leaves survivors paralyzed below the point of injury, but can also affect many basic functions like swallowing, speaking normally, and breathing independently. Evan’s spinal cord injury is incomplete, meaning the ability of the spinal cord to convey messages to or from the brain is not completely lost.

Evan began rehabilitation at TIRR Memorial-Hermann in Houston, Texas on Thursday, May 14. Since his therapy began, Evan has been progressing at a remarkable rate.
