PRP therapy is an advanced skin rejuvenation technique that uses a patient’s own blood plasma to revitalize the skin. It is used in conjunction with Microneedling with SkinPen, in a process that involves penetrating the skin with micro needles to stimulate collagen production.
Your blood will be drawn and spun down in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the valuable platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP is then applied topically to the skin throughout your microneedling session. Patients who benefit the most from PRP therapy undergo a series of treatments at regular intervals to maintain the positive effects of the plasma growth factors.
PRP is also used in Hair Restoration.
SkinPen creates tiny channels in the skin, so when PRP is applied topically to the skin during and after the procedure, the PRP is able to fully penetrate into the deep layers of the skin. Topically applying PRP enables it to get into more planes in the skin, compared to injections where the PRP is isolated to the injected area. Additionally with topical application of PRP there is less pain, bruising, swelling and “down time” compared to injections.
PRP is concentrated blood plasma that is enriched with platelets that contain multiple potent growth factors that stimulate the healing of soft tissue. In the body, these platelets are responsible for helping the blood clot and rebuilding damaged tissue. Used topically, these can stimulate your stem cells, triggering the production of collagen and resulting in the growth of new skin. This gives your skin a fuller, lifted, more youthful look. And because you are using your own growth factors, you are stimulating a natural and long-lasting collagen growth.
This procedure also diminishes:
Stretch marks: The SkinPen first creates controlled damage over the thinned skin of the stretch mark. Then PRP promotes growth of thicker skin, resulting in smoother less obvious stretch marks.
Scars: The SkinPen is used to break up the fibrous tissues of the scar and the PRP stimulates the growth of healthy tissue.
