Some of us were joking around at lunch the other day about filler and how much you need to really see a difference. Someone joked, “You wanna buy disappointment? Get one syringe of filler for a cheek enhancement!”
I laughed because it’s SO true. One syringe of filler is not going to make a difference in a treatment area like the cheeks. Not only will you need more product because it’s a larger area, but the cheeks require enough product to create structure (like a scaffold) under the skin and enough volume to lift the face.
I’ve had my cheeks enhanced a few times over the 6 years I’ve been here. Twice we used one syringe in each cheek and once we used 2 in each cheek. I’m 45 and I have a decent amount of volume loss, especially on my left side. This is typical for everyone as this is our “driving side” and it is exposed to the sun much more than our right side. The extra sun exposure increases collagen depletion, and thus, volume loss. Also, many people are naturally asymmetrical, so it’s not uncommon to need more filler on one side of your face than the other, for either of these reasons.
Don’t be afraid of being overfilled though. Gina and Iris prefer to err on the side of subtlety with injections. Also keep in mind that a 1 ml syringe of filler is equivalent to ONE TEASPOON of product. That’s really not much!
Even with one syringe on each side, the results are still subtle and natural looking, resulting in a nice ogee curve. The ogee curve is the sexy curve that starts from the top of your cheekbone and angles down towards your mid-cheek. It, like pretty much everything, diminishes as we age, and cheek fillers can be used to restore this youthful volume and shape.
Don’t get me wrong…I’m not trying to say you need a ton of filler to have great results. But I do want to provide accurate information so you won’t be disappointed in your results. If you have a certain budget you need to meet, keep in mind it is going to be better to wait until you can afford the right amount of filler to get the results you really want.
So, how much filler will you need? This is one of the most common questions we are asked. The following list reflects AVERAGE answers, and there are many reasons why one individual might need more or less than another, but broadly speaking you can count on:
Tear troughs: 1 syringe
Lips: 1 syringe
Cheeks: 2+ syringes
Jawline 2-4 syringes
Vertical lip lines: 1 syringe
Smile lines: 1 syringe
Nasolabial folds: 1 syringe
Temples: 1-2 syringes
Chin: 1 syringe
Nose: 1 syringe
