FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE & PEPTIDE THERAPY

Have you met Dr. Rockwood?

Dr. Sheldon Rockwood is an emergency board-certified physician. She practices emergency medicine at the Dell Seton Emergency Room and also has a special interest in self care. Her passion for health and longevity has created a path for her patients interested in wellness. Dr. Rockwood’s functional medicine program is a personalized approach to healthcare and promoting overall well-being. It aims to treat the whole person rather than just the symptoms, taking into account various factors such as genetics, environment, lifestyle, and individual circumstances.

Body Tonic’s Functional Medicine programs include the following:

  • Holistic Approach: Body Tonic’s Functional medicine program considers the interconnectedness of different body systems and how they influence each other. By addressing the underlying imbalances and dysfunctions in the body, functional medicine aims to restore optimal health and well-being.
  • Personalized Care: Dr. Rockwood recognizes that each person is unique and requires an individualized approach to their health and wellness needs. She uses in-depth assessments, including comprehensive medical history, physical exams, laboratory tests, and sometimes genetic analysis, to understand the specific factors contributing to a person’s health issues.
  • Root Cause Identification: Instead of merely treating symptoms, our functional medicine program aims to identify and address the underlying causes of disease or imbalances. This approach helps in preventing future health issues and promotes long-term well-being.
  • Lifestyle and Nutrition: Functional medicine emphasizes the importance of lifestyle factors, such as nutrition, exercise, stress management, and sleep, in promoting optimal health. It focuses on personalized dietary and lifestyle recommendations tailored to an individual’s unique needs, aiming to support your overall well-being.
  • Integrative Treatments: Functional medicine combines conventional medicine with evidence-based complementary and alternative therapies. This may include dietary supplements, peptide therapy, mind-body techniques, exercise, and other treatments that have shown efficacy in improving health and well-being.
  • Patient-Empowerment: Functional medicine encourages active participation from the patient in their healing journey. It fosters a therapeutic partnership between the patient and practitioner, promoting education, self-care, and lifestyle modifications that empower individuals to take control of their health.
  • Prevention and Longevity: By addressing the root causes of disease and focusing on optimizing overall health, our functional medicine program aims to prevent future health issues and promote longevity. It emphasizes proactive measures to support well-being and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Issues that our Functional Medicine Program can help with:

  • Chronic Diseases: Functional medicine can be effective in managing and improving chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological conditions, and hormonal imbalances.
  • Digestive Disorders: Functional medicine can help identify and address the root causes of digestive issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and food sensitivities.
  • Hormonal Imbalances: Functional medicine approaches can be beneficial for conditions like thyroid disorders, sexual dysfunction, adrenal imbalances, reproductive hormone imbalances (such as polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS), and menopause-related symptoms.
  • Allergies and Sensitivities: Functional medicine can provide strategies for managing allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities, such as food allergies, environmental allergies, and chemical sensitivities.
  • Fatigue and Energy Issues: Functional medicine practitioners can help identify underlying causes of fatigue, including nutritional deficiencies, adrenal dysfunction, sleep disorders, chronic infections, and lifestyle factors.
  • Mental Health Disorders: Functional medicine takes a holistic approach to mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and stress-related conditions. It considers factors such as gut health, hormonal imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, and inflammation that can contribute to mental health imbalances.
  • Weight Management: Functional medicine can provide personalized approaches to weight management by addressing underlying factors such as hormonal imbalances, gut health, nutrient deficiencies, metabolic dysfunction, and lifestyle factors.
  • Chronic Pain and Inflammation: Functional medicine focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of chronic pain conditions, such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, migraines, and autoimmune-related pain.
  • Sleep Disorders: Functional medicine practitioners can help identify factors contributing to sleep disturbances, such as hormonal imbalances, stress, nutrient deficiencies, and lifestyle habits, to develop personalized strategies for improving sleep quality.
  • Stress Reduction: Stress, anxiety, and mental health conditions can negatively impact sexual function.
