One of the most common things we hear is “My Botox didn’t last as long this time” or “My Botox usually sets in in two days and it’s been five days and nothing has happened”.” Botox/Dysport/Xeomin are all proteins and they all are subject to your metabolism, and MANY variables go into treatment outcomes. All those details can be found in a previous blog.
A few years ago, we ran across this wonderful explanation from @cosmedocs about the duration of Botox, Dysport and Xeomin, and treatment expectations. It is VERY HELPFUL!
How long does it last? 3 months? 4 months?
How quickly does it kick in? We know that there can be some variation with how quickly muscles relax. For some, it begins within 48 hours, for others it can take up to 2 weeks
.
The MAXIMUM effect of toxin tends to be between 2-4 weeks and after this there’s a gradual decline in effectiveness.
For most people, results can be seen to have some effect for 3-4 months.
For many people who think their tox has worn off after 2 months – usually this is because its effect is just not as great (and noticeable) as the first few weeks. Of course there is a risk of resistance, but this is rare.
When should you have repeat treatment?
We usually recommend between 4-6 months. Personally I like muscles to regain most of their strength before re-treatment as this helps to lessen long term muscle atrophy. Another option would be to opt for ‘natural’ results rather than ‘frozen’ each time.
However…in summary…don’t expect there to be NO MOVEMENT for 3/4 months. This isn’t how toxin works as it’s a gradually wearing off process over the weeks.
